QFS 2021 - Quantum Fluids and Solids

Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) and Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India organized an International Conference on Quantum Fluids and Solids (QFS2021). The workshop was conducted online from 10th to 19th August 2021.

The QFS conference is the flagship meeting of the quantum fluids and solids research community. It began in 1975, and since 1997 its location alternates between Asia, Europe, and N. America. For a brief history of the conference, please visit https://people.umass.edu/qfs98/history.htm. QFS topics pertain to macroscopic quantum phenomena, with a focus on liquid and solid helium, while also including other related systems, such as cold atoms. This series of meetings plays a crucial role by regularly bringing together the entire quantum fluids and solids research community and discuss the latest developments. The synergy between traditional and new research areas is encouraged and has strong tradition of including PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.

The QFS2021 continued this tradition, bringing the conference to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India in 2021. QFS2021 was organized around the following topics:

  • Quantum liquids, solids, and gases
  • Confined systems
  • Quantum turbulence
  • Superfluid mechanics
  • Cold atoms
  • Electrons in/on helium
  • Cryogenic Techniques
  • Topological phenomena

Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic across the world, we decided to proceed with completely online conference. The 9 days program (10-14th and 16-19th August, 2021) included presentations by experts in the field from around the world.
